Brain surgery tomorow

Well, this time tomorrow I will be on my way to the hospital for brain surgery. I would much rather them be doing this to me instead of one of my kids but, let's be honest, nobody really ever wants someone hacking into their skulls.

I am very nervous about this. The complications are awful and most people I have met have ended up with some type of complication. A few that I have spoken to online in the past few months have died. And being a fatalistic type of person anyway, telling me to "think positive" doesn't help. I'm nervous and worried.

At any rate, if you want to check up on me I'll have Pete post an update on my other blog. In the meantime, I'll be up in Cincinnati for a week at the University of Cincinnati Hospital and then, hopefully, head home. So, I will be gone for awhile but I'll be back!

Peace out.

A mom who lost a child to meningitis many years ago told me, "Your 'everything will be all right button' just doesn't work anymore." Truer words were never spoken.

Rebecca, you strike me more as a realistic person than a fatalistic one (although I am not pretending to know you better than you know yourself).

Once you know, you can't un-know. You suffer, and you can't un-suffer.

You've suffered a lot. You know a lot.

There is no tiptoe through the tulips, not any more.

I hope and pray with a full heart that all goes well with the surgery - and the aftermath. I care what happens to you - and those who love you IRL care far more, obviously.

And I don't find it one bit strange that some sort of forced "positive thinking" is cold comfort, and does not erase fears.

Thinking and thinking of you. Hoping and longing and waiting with you, even from here.

I am thinking about you today and will be tomorrow and all this week. I mostly just wish you the ability to get to tomorrow quickly because waiting is stressful. Will be checking the other blog religiously. You don't need to be strong. You just need to be. Lots of love to you! XOXO- Abby

Thanks for the kind thoughts, ladies. Cathy, I kind of look at it as realistic, too. But most people just think I'm a pessimist. :-)

We've had a nice couple of weeks. Over the weekend we took the kids to a theme park so I could ride rollercoasters for the last time. (Let's face it, the trip was really for me! :) The whole thing terrified Sam but Iris was happy enough and it was good to spend time with them. We've gone on a lot of drives, too, and just hung out. So it's been nice and peaceful.

I'll try to get Pete to update here after tomorrow.

See everyone soon!
